Selecting awardees for the Anugerah Ibu Kiwanis for mothers with special needs children and special needs mothers with children requires thoughtful consideration and sensitivity. The following are suggested selection criteria for each category:

Mothers with Special Needs Children

Exceptional Care and Support:

• The nominee provides exemplary care and support to her special needs child.
• Examples of going above and beyond to meet the unique needs of the child should be highlighted.

Resilience and Perseverance:

• Evidence of the nominee’s resilience and perseverance in the face of challenges related to raising a special needs child.
• Demonstrated abilities to rise above challenging situations and showcased exceptional level of patience against hardships and adversity.

Positive Attitude and Inspiration:

• Assess her positive attitude, outlook on life, and ability to inspire hope and positivity in others facing similar challenges.

Collaboration and Engagement:

• The nominee actively collaborates with professionals, educators, and other parents to create or be a part of a supportive network for special needs children.

Demonstrated Advocacy (Bonus point):

• The nominee actively advocates for the rights, inclusion, and well-being of special needs children in spite of facing challenges and limitations i.e. low income, less educated
• Evidence of involvement in organizations or initiatives that support the special needs community.

Community Impact (Bonus point):

• The nominee has made a positive impact within the community by raising awareness about the challenges faced by special needs children and their families.

Special Needs Mothers with Children

Personal Growth and Development:

• The nominee demonstrates a commitment to personal growth and development despite the challenges of being a special needs mother.

Advocacy for Self and Others:

• The nominee actively advocates for the rights and well-being of special needs mothers, recognizing the unique challenges they face.

Inspiration and Role Model:

• The nominee serves as an inspiration and positive role model for other special needs mothers.

Balance and Well-being:

• The nominee maintains a balance between caregiving responsibilities and personal well-being, demonstrating resilience and self-care.

Community Involvement:

• Evidence of the nominee’s involvement in community initiatives or projects that support and uplift special needs mothers.

General Considerations for Both Categories:

Letters of Recommendation:

• Strong letters of recommendation from professionals, community leaders, or individuals who can attest to the nominee’s contributions and character

Personal Statements:

• A personal statement from the nominee describing their journey, challenges, and the impact they have made within the special needs community.

Demonstrated Impact:

• Evidence of tangible impact, whether through testimonials, community projects, or other means.

Overcome Adversity and Extraordinary Challenges:

• Considerations to mothers who are less educated, low income group, struggling to make a living at the same time raising special needs kids with a lot of challenges

Alignment with Kiwanis Values:

• Consideration of how the nominee’s actions align with the values of Kiwanis, particularly in promoting community service and support for children.

It’s essential to approach the selection process with empathy and a genuine understanding of the unique circumstances faced by these mothers. The selection committee should be diverse and include individuals who can appreciate the challenges and contributions within the special needs community.
